The A100 PCIe 40 GB is a professional graphics card launched by NVIDIA on June 22,2020.It is built using a 7 nm process and is based on a GA100 graphics processor,without support for DirectX.Due to A100 PCIe 40 GB not supporting DirectX 11 or DirectX 12,it may not be possible to run all the latest games.The GA100 graphics processor is a large chip with a chip area of 826 square millimeters and 54.2 billion transistors.It has 6912 shading units,432 texture mapping units,and 160 ROPs.It also includes 432 tensor cores,which help improve the speed of machine learning applications.NVIDIA pairs 40 GB HBM2e memory with A100 PCIe 40 GB and connects using a 5120 bit memory interface.The operating frequency of GPU is 765 MHz,which can be increased to 1410 MHz,and the memory operating frequency is 1215 MHz.
As a dual slot card,the NVIDIA A100 PCIe 40 GB receives power from an 8-pin EPS power connector with a rated maximum power consumption of 250 W.This device does not have a monitor connection because it is not suitable for connecting monitors.A100 PCIe 40 GB is connected to the rest of the system using the PCI-Express 4.0 x16 interface.The card is 267 millimeters long and 111 millimeters wide,using a dual slot cooling solution.
The NVIDIA A100 Tensor Core GPU can achieve outstanding acceleration on various scales for AI,data analysis,and high-performance computing(HPC),thus addressing extremely challenging computing challenges.As the engine of the NVIDIA data center platform,the A100 can efficiently scale to thousands of GPUs or be split into seven independent GPU instances through new multi instance GPU(MIG)technology,thereby accelerating workloads of all sizes.A100’s third-generation Tensor Core technology can now provide accelerated support for higher levels of accuracy for various workloads,reducing the time required to gain insights and product launch.
NVIDIA®The A100 GPU is a dual slot 10.5-inch PCI Express Gen4 card based on the NVIDIAAmpere GA100 graphics processing unit(GPU).It uses a passive heat sink for cooling,which requires the system airflow to operate the card correctly within its thermal limit.A100 PCI supports dual precision(FP64),single precision(FP32),and semi precision(FP16)computer tasks,unified virtual memory,and page migration engines.To optimize performance,NVIDIA GPU Boost™Support functions.NVIDIA GPU automatically dynamically adjusts the GPU clock during runtime to optimize performance within the power limit and thermal limit range.When the A100 PCIe board leaves the factory,ECC is enabled by default to protect the GPU’s memory interface and onboard memory.ECC protects the memory interface by detecting any single,double,and all odd bit errors.The GPU will retry any memory transactions with ECC errors until there are no data transmission errors.ECC protects DRAM content by fixing any unit errors and detecting double bit errors.The A100 with 40GB HBM2 memory supports ECC natively,with no ECC overhead in terms of memory capacity and bandwidth.The NVIDIA A100 GPU operates unrestricted,with a thermal design power(TDP)of up to 250 W,which can accelerate applications that require the fastest computing speed and highest data throughput.
application area
The A100 PCIE NVIDIA professional graphics card is widely used in scientific research,medical image processing,virtual reality,cloud computing,and other fields.
The United States has introduced new regulations on semiconductor export restrictions to China,including restrictions on the export of high-performance computing chips to Chinese Mainland.And the performance indicators of NVIDIA’s A100 chip are used as limiting standards.A regulated high-performance computing chip is one that meets both of the following conditions:
(1)The I/O bandwidth transmission rate of the chip is greater than or equal to 600 Gbyte/s;
(2)The sum of the bit length of each operation multiplied by the computing power calculated by TOPS in the”original computing unit of the digital processing unit”is greater than or equal to 4800 TOPS.This also makes it impossible for NVIDIA A100/H100 series and AMD MI200/300 series AI chips to be exported to China.
