Motorola uses radio, broadband, and internet, and provides embedded chip systems as well as end-to-end overall network communication solutions to enhance the control and communication capabilities of individuals, work groups, vehicles, and families.

Motorola has three major business groups, namely Enterprise Mobile Solutions, Broadband and Mobile Networks, and Mobile Terminals.

On January 4, 2011, Motorola officially split into Motorola Systems, a government and corporate business, and Motorola Mobile Holdings, a mobile device and home business. After the split of Motorola, both the Motorola brand and technology patents will belong to the mobile phone company, and the mobile phone company will authorize the system company to use the Motorola brand and patents for free.

On August 15, 2011, Google announced its acquisition of Motorola Mobility for approximately $12.5 billion in cash per share at $40.00. On May 21, 2012, Google officially announced the completion of its $12.5 billion acquisition of Motorola Mobility. In June 2012, Google underwent an internal restructuring involving multiple subsidiaries in the United States and abroad. Motorola Mobility Holdings, Inc. has changed its corporate form to Motorola Mobility LLC.

Lenovo Group announced in Beijing that it has completed the acquisition of Motorola’s mobile business from Google, which includes 2000 patented technologies and Google’s authorized use rights for other mobile phone patented technologies, as well as a combination of Motorola’s mobile brand and trademark. According to analysts, the completion of the transaction will consolidate Lenovo’s position as the world’s third largest smartphone manufacturer.
